Welcome to the Enchanted Bluff House — a luxury 42' tiny house on wheels surrounded by forest and dramatic rock bluffs on 7 private acres in Meadow Creek, BC.
This is your own private retreat in the wild Kootenays. No shared spaces — just you, the forest, the bluffs, and an incredible collection of outdoor amenities. We're Dan & Lina from Retreat Vacation Rentals. If you need anything during your stay, don't hesitate to reach out.
The property has a unique microclimate — the mineral-rich quartz and lichen bluffs radiate warmth, often making it several degrees warmer than the surrounding area. Wildlife is abundant: deer, turkey, ermines, hummingbirds, and more. At night, enjoy breathtaking stargazing with nearly zero light pollution — the Milky Way and even aurora borealis on special nights.
Important: Please set up your GPS directions or download offline maps before leaving Kaslo (from the south) or Revelstoke (from the north), as there is no cell reception north of Kaslo. Please also enable WiFi calling on your phone before losing signal.
Tip — Mudroom French doors: The wooden French doors leading from the mudroom to the deck have a top, middle, and bottom latch. Be careful that the bottom latch doesn't fall into the locked position when you close the doors — this can lock you out. Keep the bottom latch in the up position to be safe. There is also a second set of French doors in the home. If you do get locked out, use your smart lock code at the front door.
Your check-in details — including entry instructions — are provided in your booking confirmation message. Check your platform chat (Airbnb, VRBO, etc.) or email for everything you need to get in.
We recommend watching our short orientation video for a walkthrough of amenities and how to use them — including some not-so-obvious features: Watch Orientation Video
- No smoking. No smoking or vaping anywhere on the property — security deposit will be charged if evidence of smoking is found.
- No candles. No candles allowed inside the home.
- No events or parties. This is a residential area — please keep noise respectful.
- Quiet hours outdoors. 9:00 PM – 9:00 AM to respect our neighbours.
- Pets by approval only. Maximum 1 pet, approved by host prior to check-in (fee may apply). No cats allowed under any circumstances due to homeowner allergies.
- 5 guests maximum. As listed on the booking — no additional visitors.
- Fire safety. Always ensure the gas fire table, BBQ, and fire pit are fully off/extinguished when not in use, leaving the property, and at checkout.
- Septic system. Please follow the posted rules in the bathroom — we are on a septic system.
- No garbage outside. Please do not leave garbage outside to prevent bears from visiting. Details on where to put garbage are in your check-in message.
- Respect property boundaries. The property covers 7 acres, but boundaries with neighbouring properties are not always clearly marked. If you encounter a neighbouring house or structure, you've likely ventured off our land — please return to the property.
Garbage & Recycling
Please place all garbage in the bear-proof bin. To open it: stick your finger into the small latch mechanism and lift up, then pull up on the handle with your other hand (it usually takes two hands). There is a separate bin for recycling.
For easy transport to the transfer station, kindly ensure all garbage and recycling are placed in bags. Separating your recycling into a dedicated bag will greatly assist us with sorting.
Never leave garbage, food, or coolers outside. Bears are active in this area and will investigate food odours. Always use the bear-proof bin provided.
Climate Control
The home has multiple heating and cooling options. Please use them in this order:
1. Mini-Split Heat Pump (primary) — The LETO mini-split handles both heating and air conditioning and is your best option year-round. The remote control is on the wall near the living area. In summer, a portable AC unit is also installed in the master bedroom for extra cooling.
2. Baseboard Heaters (supplementary) — If you need additional warmth, the electric baseboard heaters are controlled by MYSA smart thermostats — white thermostats with a white digital screen, located in the living room. These are great for supplementing the mini-split in cold weather.
3. Propane Heating (emergency only) — Only use the propane heating system if the power is out or other systems aren't enough. It's controlled by a black thermostat in the living room, to the left of the mudroom French doors (same wall as the mini-split and MYSA thermostats). The propane system works during power outages.
The bathroom and mudroom workspace also have heated floors — these may be on a timer or thermostat.
During warmer months, tiny biting flies (no-see-ums/gnats) can get through the window screens. We recommend keeping windows closed and using the AC instead, especially at night.
Kitchen
The kitchen is fully equipped for gourmet meals with:
- Dual induction stovetop — requires flat-bottomed, magnetic cookware (provided)
- Gas oven
- Full-size dishwasher
- Microwave, toaster, electric kettle
- Coffee maker with coffee, tea, chai, and hot chocolate provided
- A selection of spices on the rack
- Blender, baking sheet, BBQ utensils
- Wine glasses, full cutlery and utensil set
The stovetop is induction — it heats using magnetic fields, so only flat-bottomed magnetic pots and pans will work. All cookware provided is compatible. Press the power button, then select a heat level from 1–10. Press twice to see the temperature in Fahrenheit. The stove won't start until a pan is placed on it. Child lock: if you see a lock icon and the stove won't respond, press and hold the lock button to unlock it. The timer button will auto-shut off after a set time.
The oven works like a camper oven — it requires manual ignition. Push the knob in and hold it until you see a small blue pilot flame light up, then continue turning to your desired temperature. Keep holding for a few seconds after the flame appears to let the thermocouple heat up.
Laundry
A stacked washer/dryer combo is located in the bathroom area, behind a cabinet door. Standard top-loading washer on the bottom, dryer on top.
Towels & Linens
Fresh towels, linens, and extra pillows and blankets are provided. Extra towels and linens can be found on the open shelving in the hallway linen closet.
Please bring your own beach/pool towels. The white towels provided are for indoor use only.
Entertainment
Smart TV with streaming apps in the living area. The dedicated workspace in the mudroom offers inspiring mountain views and heated floors.
Board games: Connect 4, Monopoly, Backgammon, Scrabble Jr., plus a selection of books on the shelves.
The "Escapology" coffee table book is a great read about tiny homes and cabin living — perfect for your stay here.
Decks & Lounge
Step outside to three spacious decks with dining furniture, a gas fire table, comfortable lounge seating, and an outdoor shower. String lights throughout create a magical evening atmosphere.
Pool
An 18-foot round above-ground pool is available seasonally (not heated — dependent on local temperatures). Pool closure may occur in early to mid October depending on first frost.
Hot Tub
The electric cedar hot tub is available year-round. Controls are on the side panel — use the temp button to adjust temperature and the jets button to turn jets on/off. Please shower before use and replace the cover when finished.
You'll notice two items floating in the water: an autochlorinator (leave it floating — don't submerge it under benches) and a surface skimmer sponge (keeps water clean). You can remove either temporarily if they're in your way, just put them back when done.
If the water level runs low, use the black hose (usually hanging near the deck) — connect it to the outdoor shower spout and run hot water to top it up.
After each day of use, add one teaspoon of OxyClear shock (chlorine-free) to the center of the hot tub and turn on the jets. The container and teaspoon are in the bin near the hot tub. This keeps the water clean and balanced between stays.
Sauna
The electric cedar barrel sauna seats up to six and is accessed via the garden path. To operate: press the power button twice. A light will indicate it's heating up. The middle button (sun icon) controls the interior and exterior lights. The sauna is set to 80°C.
If the sauna isn't heating up, check the safety switch — a small button that can pop out. Just push it back in. If that doesn't work, the sauna electrical panel is located near the path entrance.
The sauna path lights are on a schedule with a manual override switch near the house. The fire pit area lights have a separate timer control nearby.
Fire Pit
The fire pit area is perfect for evenings under the stars. Unlimited firewood is provided at no additional cost — you'll find it stacked near the fire pit area.
Always check for current fire bans before lighting: BC Wildfire — Fire Bans. Never leave fires unattended. Fully extinguish before going to bed or leaving the property.
BBQ
A BBQ grill is available on the deck with utensils provided. Please clean the grill after each use and ensure it is fully turned off when finished.
Outdoor Shower
An enclosed outdoor shower is available on the main deck — perfect for rinsing off after the pool or before the hot tub.
Workspace
If you're working remotely, the dedicated workspace in the mudroom features a desk with inspiring views of the property, heated floors, and WiFi access.
Accessibility
The main bedroom is on a split level — about 3–4 steps up from the main floor. The bathroom, living room, and kitchen are all on the main floor. The two loft bedrooms are accessed by stairs (queen loft) and ladder (double bed loft) — these may not be suitable for guests with mobility issues.
The bathroom has a tub/shower combo with grab bars installed. The property has gravel paths and natural terrain — some areas have steep drops and uneven ground.
The property features dramatic rock bluffs with steep drops. Please exercise caution when exploring, especially with children. Explore at your own risk.
Safety Equipment
The property is equipped with:
- Smoke detector
- Carbon monoxide detector
- First aid kit
- Fire extinguisher
Security
Exterior security cameras are installed on the property for safety. No cameras are inside the home or pointed at private areas.
Wildlife
This is bear country. Never leave food, garbage, or coolers outside. Deer, turkey, and smaller wildlife are frequent visitors and harmless. If you encounter a bear, stay calm, make yourself big, make noise, and back away slowly. Do not run.
Cell Service
There is no cell reception at the property or north of Kaslo. WiFi calling works inside the house. Please enable WiFi calling on your phone before losing cell signal. In case of emergency, call 911.
For emergencies, contact us through the booking platform messaging, or call/text 1-833-636-1919. We monitor messages regularly even when not on the property.
Power Outages
In the rare event of a prolonged power outage, we'll aim to reach the property within an hour (weather permitting) to start the generator. During an outage:
- WiFi stays on for 1–2 hours via backup battery (UPS). If the battery fully drains before power returns, see the WiFi reset instructions below.
- Water will stop — you'll get one toilet flush. To flush more, pour a pot of pool water into the toilet.
- The gas oven, propane heating system, and propane appliances (fireplace, BBQ) will still work.
If the power was out long enough to fully drain the backup battery, the WiFi router may not turn back on automatically when power returns. The UPS (backup battery) is located in the closet under the loft stairs, behind the pots and pans. To reset it:
- Unplug the UPS from the wall outlet and wait 10 seconds.
- Press and hold the power button on the front for 2 seconds, then release.
- Check the small reset button on the back of the UPS — if it's popped out, press it firmly back in.
- Plug the UPS back into the wall outlet.
- Press and hold the power button for 2 seconds until you hear a tone and a green light turns on.
The WiFi router should come back online within a minute or two. The battery takes about 8 hours to fully recharge — your WiFi will work normally on wall power in the meantime.
Emergency Neighbours
If you need immediate help and no one from our team has arrived:
- Steve & Mel — 240 Duncan Dam (to the left of our property from the road, same side). They often have backup power/WiFi and know our generator setup.
- Martin & Marline — directly across the road (property with the chicken coop).
- Meadow Creek Store/Bar & Grill — usually has backup power and WiFi during open hours.
